How to Bleep Profanity in DaVinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve: Powerful, No Censor Feature
DaVinci Resolve is a free professional editor from Blackmagic Design. Its Fairlight audio module offers advanced tools, but there's no automatic profanity detection.
Manual Method via Fairlight
1. Switch to Fairlight
Open the Fairlight tab. The audio-focused workspace shows waveforms and precise timecodes.
2. Listen and Mark
Play through the audio, pressing M to add markers at each profane moment.
3. Cut with Blade Tool
Press B for Blade Tool. Cut before and after each swear word.
4. Generate Tone
In Fairlight: Effects Library → Generators → Tone. Create a 1 kHz sine wave, place on a separate track.
5. Mute the Original
Select the profanity segment, reduce Gain to -∞ in the inspector.
6. Repeat
Each word: marker → cut → tone → mute. On a 5-minute podcast with heavy profanity — at least 30 minutes of work.
Limitations
- No speech recognition in the free version (Studio at $295 has some)
- Manual search: Marking by ear is the only option
- Individual tone clips: Each beep is created separately
- Music: Can't separate vocals from instruments
Automatic Method
- Export audio from Resolve (Deliver → Audio Only)
- Upload to videocensor.net
- Download the processed file in 30–90 seconds
- Import back onto the timeline
